A remote area of staggering beauty
There’s something quite soothing about being in an almost inhospitable landscape while the world collapses around you.
I have some thoughts to share about hope, collaboration and the strength of moving forward but I’ll do that in my voice note tonight. I need just a few more hours to properly arrange my thoughts - and to be honest, in this altitude (we’re currently at 4400m above sea level), the arranging of thoughts seems to require a little more effort.
Suffice it to say, I don’t think giving up is ever the answer. Regardless of the outcome of this election, a collective approach to liberation is and has been necessary for much longer than the four years preceding this result. Neither party was a salve to the abject self interest, destruction of the planet and its communities, and inter-social animosity that capitalism relies on to achieve its aims.
The result we have is the result we have to work with, but the fact of the matter is that work was always going to be required - because there is so much that needs to be done if we’re going to change our world for the better. No outcome could have avoided that reality. The good news is that work on the project of saving humanity already began years ago, and has been kept going by community groups, minorities, activists and changemakers, none of whom are unprepared for what this means. The leaders we need have been there all along - what we have failed to do is learn how to follow.
That can change now.
I’ll expand more later, but for now just remember that this is not forever. Nothing ever is.
Love, Clem x
Beautiful photo and thank you for sharing your thoughts. Last time I was at 4400m ASL was several years ago in the Chilean Andes and everything was difficult. lol Sending positive vibes your way for your journey.
Soothing while the world collapses around you? Then a call for community but any voice that may speak not in total agreement will be shut down.
I am new to Australia & started following you in April. I came on here to find lively discussion. This is what activist spaces are. Community is built around different ideas, perspectives, that collaborate for a common goal.
If we don’t have an opportunity to listen, or to speak without fear of being ‘kicked out’ of community there is no moving towards a future.
I didn’t know anything about you but on here & then Instagram & enjoy most of your writing & takes - but not all & that should be ok. In fact a good Substack subscription will have lively intelligent discussions in the comments.
Not here. No one discusses the issues. There’s no mention of actual community or causes on the ground. There’s no structured activism.
& for me to express my concerns to be told to F off?!
Who are you?! What are your goals & strategies?
I think the first paragraph answers this explicitly. & then to give some vague direct to form community. It’s performative.
