Thanks Clem…this is an outstanding piece of writing! And I love your last point…in reality most of the Steve’s are not interested in facts at all…especially if those facts are spoken to them by a woman, who is significantly more well read than them…which illustrates the points beautifully.

Those of us with the means need to stop trying to argue with Steve & beat him at his game, when him & his mates have stacked the rules against us…& just start up our own game & work hard to make that game so much better that we all can flourish & the Steve’s will be left alone & smug in their winning of the old game, that no one wants to play anymore.

How’s that going for you now Steve? 🤔

soooo good. i have literally seen the villain origin story of a late 20s white man in tech. what he doesn’t get it that i’ve met him before… he’s gaslighting and stealing credit it.

i left the project. i told my manager and more evolved man to get me out. i’m not enabling another man 10 years my junior getting paid the same as me (i think). fuck this … i’m fighting for a promotion wtf.

i’m exhausted… get me out … and i’m in tech. my pay is better than so many industries. but am i meant to be grateful compared to other industries? fuck that noise.

thanks i needed a rant

I spent the better part of 20 years being actively discriminated against in tech. I was invariably the lowest paid engineer on the team, the only woman dev, and also the most competent - broad and deep. We're not allowed to be anything short of excellent, all the time, and even then, it never does save us, does it?

But it's like I would tell my students: it's less work than stripping. And it's not like it's *hard* (it can't be hard. If it were difficult, white dudes wouldn't want to do it.)
